Day to day use of a handbag can create a lot of wear and tear. If you’re the type of person that appreciates the finer things in life, such as designer handbags, then you probably want to provide the best care for your bag so that it remains looking beautiful for as long as possible. More so, if you had spent 3-4 figures for it (or even 5, in some cases).

Here are some basic tips to get you started.

Use the Dustbag

You know that dustbag came with your bag or purse? What is the purpose of a dustbag ? It isn’t meant to be stashed away in your closet. The purpose of the Dustbags is to protect your expensive bags and shoes from dust, excessive moisture, exposure to excess sunlight, color transfer and many others.  If you lost your dustbag or don’t have one, you can use a cotton pillowcase. You can stuff your bag with tissues to help to hold the shape of the bag. Don’t be afraid to use it when you’re not using your bag!

Get a Handbag Organizer

These handy interior accessories can do wonders not only for the organization of your purse but also for the longevity of the bag itself. It isn’t uncommon for makeup spills to compromise the interior of a nice bag. Having a handbag organizer to protect your beloved bag is a great idea.

Do not clean your branded bag yourself.

Many branded/designer bag owners tried to clean their designer bags themselves. It can come with a very high price. We strongly recommend never to clean your beloved bags yourself even if you have the right cleaning solution as you need to know the technique of cleaning as well. Do seek professional help even if it’s only a small stain. Remember, never use any type of household cleaner or nail polish on your precious handbag.

Be Careful Where you Store your Bag

Hastily storing your bag, especially at work, can be quite treacherous for your handbag. Hazards such as thumbtacks, sharp metal edges, splinters, etc, are notorious for creating small tears in your bag that can quickly develop into bigger, noticeable blemishes. Refrain from hanging your bags as it will distort the shape of the handles and this is irreversible. After using your bags, make sure to empty the contents of your bags like makeup sets, pen or perfume just incase it leaks and destroy your beloved bags.  A good way is to use a cosmetic pouch to prevent spillage.

Keep your Bag Dry!

This one should go without saying, but water damage is a big culprit. Try to avoid taking your most precious bags out in the rain when possible. If your bag or purse does happen to get wet, the best thing you can do is wipe it down immediately.

These basic guidelines should help you maximize the lifespan of your beloved designer handbag.
